Case series 2

In a second case series,1 by Connolly, looking at patients with degenerative spinal pathology Actifuse in combination with local bone was determined to be an excellent alternative to autograft alone in PLF. Fusion rates, assessed using plain radiographs and CT scans, were 98% and 96% at 6 and 12 months respectively.

  • At 6 months 42 levels (84 sides) were evaluated and 98% were fused
  • At 12 months 27 levels (54 sides) were evaluated and 96% were fused
  • There was no implant loosening in any patients
  • At 12 months disability rates and narcotic use were significantly reduced
  • At 12 months 79% believed surgery was worthwhile

These results support the data from Case Study 1, shown previously. Actifuse achieves successful fusion when combined with local bone without the addition of BMA.
