Jun 28, 2007 ApaTech announces the American launch of Actifuse ABX E-Z-fil Putty
A major step forward in the search for the ideal bone grafting material
ApaTech, a world leader in bone graft technology, is pleased to announce the US launch of ActifuseTMABX E-Z-fil Putty, a revolutionary new approach to bone grafting and a major addition to the Company’s product line.
Dr. Tushar Patel, Fairfax, Virginia stated: “We have had the opportunity, in our practice, to use and evaluate a significant number of bone graft substitutes and DBMs. Actifuse ABX represents a major step forward in the search for the ideal bone grafting material, combining the osteostimulative benefits of the Actifuse scaffold with the placement benefits and moldability of a putty. The handling properties and ease of use of Actifuse ABX are truly excellent.”
Commenting on the American launch of Actifuse ABX, CEO Simon Cartmell said “Having witnessed the rapid early adoption of Actifuse ABX in Europe and Australia, we are very pleased to introduce this innovative and easy to use product to American surgeons. We are confident that Actifuse ABX will become the bone grafting material of choice for a majority of US surgeons.”
The indications for use for Actifuse ABX specifically include posterolateral spine fusion with appropriate stabilizing hardware (PLF), in addition to general bone void filler applications. This is the first time a synthetic graft material has been indicated for this widely used technique in the United States.
Steve Czick, President of ApaTech Inc., commented “the release of Actifuse ABX clearly illustrates ApaTech’s commitment to bring technologically advanced, osteostimulatory products to the American bone grafting market. The PLF indication in conjunction with hardware, is a first and significantly differentiates Actifuse from other synthetics and BMPs. We can now provide surgeons with a cost effective, approved on-label alternative for their PLF procedures.”
Dr Patel added “as a completely synthetic material, our use of Actifuse ABX means we no longer have to worry about possible issues of disease transmission and inconsistent bone quality due to the donor variability inherent in DBMs.”
Actifuse Advanced Bone matriX (ABX) provides surgeons with osteostimulative Actifuse granules as a moldable, cohesive mass in an easy to use applicator. As a result, surgeons can place Actifuse ABX directly into the operative site. Actifuse ABX provides surgeons with the handling benefits associated with demineralized bone matrix putties but in a product with a high volume of osteoconductive scaffold.
The unique, silicate substituted calcium phosphate chemistry of Actifuse is a significant advance in synthetic bone graft technology and provides surgeons with a safe and effective alternative to autograft, allograft, DBMs and BMPs. Actifuse enhances the formation of bone and improves the subsequent organization and strength of the graft/host bone composite structure. Unlike traditional calcium phosphate based products, Actifuse is steadily and predictably remodeled by the host biology over time, ensuring that sufficient conductive scaffold remains for the duration of new bone growth and its subsequent maturation.
Distinct from allograft and demineralized bone matrix sourced from cadaveric bone, Actifuse ABX is synthetic and, as a result, free of pathogens. This means that there is consistency lot to lot and no risk of infection due to human or animal infective agent transmission from the graft material, and being synthetic, there have been no reports of adverse immunological reactions.
