Mar 7, 2007 ApaTech announces further expansion and record sales

7th March 2007, London, ApaTech, a world leader in bone graft technology, announces the further expansion of its sales activities in the USA and the UK plus the achievement of a new monthly sales record.

Following the launch of Actifuse™ EasyPrep and with the continued acceptance of Actifuse, its unique silicate substituted osteostimulative bone graft, ApaTech proudly announces sales in excess of 1000 packs per month for the first time. Simon Cartmell, CEO, commented “Our European, American and RoW sales organizations all had record-setting months in February. Selling well over 1100 packs world wide in the short month of February is evidence of the real sales traction we are achieving with Actifuse. Surgeons increasingly recognise the benefits of more bone in less time to repair bone defects and to achieve spinal fusion.”

To further drive adoption of Actifuse, ApaTech will double its sales force in the UK in the next quarter and has appointed an additional regional sales vice president for the South East region of the US, with a particular focus on Florida, Georgia and Texas. A strengthened and more targeted approach is being implemented in the US to further enhance the effectiveness of current distribution activities. Continued significant expansion of direct sales activity is contemplated in Europe during 2007 in support of planned new product launches. Commenting on these developments, Simon Cartmell said “The coming 12 months will be a key period of growth and value enhancement for ApaTech. We have tripled sales in the last 12 months and plan to do so again in 2007/8. We will continue to invest in the commercial infrastructure of the Company to support sales activities and the launch of several best in class new products later in the year. In addition we anticipate the first clinical evidence emerging from studies that directly compare the use of Actifuse as an alternative bone grafting solution to bone morphogenetic protein in a variety of procedures.”

The unique silicate substituted calcium phosphate chemistry of Actifuse is a significant advance in synthetic bone graft technology and provides surgeons with a safe and effective alternative to autograft, allograft and other synthetic bone graft materials. Actifuse enhances the formation of bone and improves the subsequent organisation and strength of the graft/host bone composite structure. Unlike traditional calcium phosphate based products, Actifuse is steadily and predictably remodelled by the host biology over time, ensuring that sufficient conductive scaffold remains for the duration of new bone growth and its subsequent maturation.

Distinct from allograft and demineralised bone matrix sourced from cadaveric bone, Actifuse is synthetic and as a result, free of pathogens. This means that there is no risk of infection due to human or animal infective agent transmission from the graft material and there have been no reports of adverse immunological reactions.
